Triangulate is a team-based map game. Each team has three player slots. A player can take part as At home, Outside, or AI. At home players move by tapping the map. Outside players move using live device location. AI players are computer-controlled. The personal data we collect depends on how you choose to play.

1. What Triangulate is

The main game entry is Play Triangulate. The lobby supports Invite friends, Find teammate, Add AI, and Enemy: Local | Country | Global | AI.

We do not use live GPS for At home gameplay movement. We use live GPS only when a real player chooses to play Outside and location access is needed for that role.

2. Children and family play

Children should use Triangulate only with parent or guardian permission. Parents or guardians decide whether a child may play Outside.

Outside play uses live location and may involve real-world movement. Triangulate does not ask for or collect child-specific personal data.

Triangulate does not create child-specific profiles, does not sell personal data, and does not use precise location for targeted advertising.

3. Information we collect

  • Account and profile information: a randomly generated player ID, nickname, colour, recovery code, preferences, and consent records.
  • Lobby and team information: team slots, role choice, invite code use, team colour, team name, ready state, blockers, and enemy choice.
  • Location and movement information: At home tap routes, selected play area, Outside live device location, location accuracy, timestamps, speed, direction, route data, and fair-play signals where needed.
  • Gameplay information: match participation, round results, wins, duration, arena type, AI usage, enemy type, and unranked mixed-play results.
  • Device information: device type, platform, app state, diagnostics, and network quality signals used for compatibility and reliability.
  • Analytics events: app and website events used to improve gameplay, fix bugs, test fairness, and monitor safety. We do not use your phone number as an automatic analytics identifier.

4. Location and movement information

Your role choice controls location use.

At home: uses tap-to-move gameplay, does not require live GPS for movement, and may use a selected area or the host's selected area as the arena. If you choose Use my area, device location may be used to set the arena.

Outside: uses live device location, requires usable GPS, may require Precise Location depending on your device, uses fair-play and safety checks, and may be blocked if GPS quality is poor.

You can turn off location access in your device settings. If you do this, you may not be able to play Outside, but you may still be able to play At home.

5. Who can see your location or movement

During a match, other players in the same match may see your player marker on the game map. This can include your teammates and enemy players.

If you play Outside, your player marker is based on your live device location while Outside play is active.

If you play At home, your player marker is based on your tap-to-move route, not live GPS.

For normal gameplay, we do not collect account email addresses or parent or guardian contact details. If you contact us separately for support, we use those contact details for support and do not show them to other players.

6. How we use location to create an arena

A match takes place in one arena. If one or more friendly players choose Outside, the arena is based on the real-world area of the Outside player or players.

If more than one friendly player chooses Outside, we check whether those players are close enough to share one real-world arena. If they are too far apart, the game may block match start and suggest that one Outside player switches to At home.

If all friendly players are At home or AI, the match uses the host's selected area.

7. AI players

AI players are computer-controlled. They do not represent a real person, and they do not have personal location data. AI movement is generated by the game using simulated road or path behaviour.

Triangulate may use AI players when a team has an empty slot, no real enemy team is available, a player chooses to add AI, or a match needs an AI fallback.

8. Mixed play and rankings

Mixed play is unranked in this version. Mixed-play games do not submit leaderboard scores, public wins, public losses, streaks, or public team statistics.

Internal analytics may still be used to test fairness, improve gameplay, fix bugs, and monitor safety.

9. How we use your information

We use information to provide the game, build teams, sync lobbies, move player markers, create arenas, match enemies, provide AI fallback, show game state, run unranked mixed play, improve gameplay, fix bugs, monitor safety, prevent cheating, and operate events and support.

10. Third-party services

We use services for hosting, maps, analytics, app distribution, email, social media, and operational support. These services help provide the app and website experience and are not used to sell your precise location to advertisers.

  • Supabase: backend database and server functions for gameplay, profiles, support, and website forms.
  • Mixpanel: analytics for gameplay and product events. You can opt out at mixpanel.com/optout.
  • MapLibre / Protomaps: vector maps loaded on demand and cached locally. No private account information is intentionally shared with map providers.

11. Data retention

Gameplay and profile data may be retained while your profile is active. Consent records are retained so we can show which legal version was accepted. You may request deletion of your data via our contact form. TODO legal review: confirm [retention period] for location, movement, and analytics data.

12. Your rights

You can change app permissions in device settings. You may request access, correction, deletion, or that we stop further use of personal data where applicable by using our contact form.

13. Website-specific notes

This website is a marketing site for Triangulate. If you browse the site without contacting us, we only use analytics when you explicitly consent. The leaderboard pages may request public gameplay data from the Triangulate backend so the site can display recent scores and activity in read-only form.

If you use the contact form, we store the details you submit so we can respond, keep a server-side record of website feedback, and send a confirmation email back to you. If you opt in to analytics on the form, we may also associate the enquiry with an existing Triangulate player ID already present on the same device.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Last updated date at the top of this page or publish a new legal version.

15. Contact us

If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, use our contact form. TODO legal review: confirm [company legal name], [support email], [privacy email], governing law, and jurisdiction wording before publishing this legal version externally.
